Powder is only for damaged skin, not for routine changes. Clean and dry the area, dust a light layer of powder over the sore skin, then brush or blow away everything that has not stuck. Powder left loose on healthy skin stops the barrier adhering.
Many patients follow a crusting technique: powder, then a light dab of a skin protective wipe over it, repeated once or twice. This builds a thin protective crust that lets the barrier stick to a surface rather than to weeping skin.
Sore skin around a stoma is nearly always a signal that something about the fit or the routine needs adjusting. Powder treats the symptom. Send us a photo of the skin and of the used barrier and we can look at the cause with you.
Only enough to cover the damaged area, then brush the excess away. Loose powder on healthy skin prevents the barrier from sticking.
